German Federal Government Plans to Halve Western Balkans Labor Migration Quota Beginning in 2027

The German federal cabinet has advanced legislation proposing to reduce the annual Western Balkans labor migration quota from fifty thousand to twenty-five thousand workers starting next year. While business associations warn of aggravated labor shortages, resistance is emerging within the Bundesrat as several federal states oppose restricting regulated pathways into the domestic labor market.
