In a decisive operational security and cleanliness initiative, the national rail operator Deutsche Bahn has instituted a strict prohibition against consuming alcohol across all platform areas and station concourses at its five thousand four hundred railway stations throughout Germany. The ban exempts only enclosed restaurant establishments operating within station buildings.
